Spyware
Monday, September 11th, 2006I keep getting alot of questions about spyware and how to prevent it. I guess the first and formost thing is to not visit questionable websites. Sounds easy enough, but you would be suprised at how many times I see people doing a google search, going to a webpage that is nothing but google ads and looking for a link on that page. A little advice, if a google link doesn’t take you directly to the website than try another link.
There are some programs out that will help you with spyware. Adaware is one of these programs that I use quite frequently. Spybot is also a good one. Both of these programs are free and can be downloaded at Downloads.com or Tucows.com. I know that alot of people know about these programs, so please use them regularly.
Another program that is pretty nice is Microsoft’s Windows Defender. What is nice is that the definitions download with the Microsoft Downloader, so basically it updates itself. Couple of things to note is that (1) Requires that are running XP with SP2 and (2) that you own a genuine copy of your OS.
